Coin Toss

Drives are down, coins are up. Heads play Tails, with new teams every hole.

How it works

After everyone tees off, every player flips. Heads partner with Heads, Tails with Tails, and the teams are whatever the coins say: 2 v 2, 3 v 1, or, if every coin lands the same way, every player for themselves. Best net ball wins the hole. No carryovers: every hole settles on its own, and a tied hole is a wash.

By default the bet is per opponent: every loser pays every winner. Win a 3-v-1 as the loner at $5 and you collect $5 from each of the three, $15; lose it and you pay $15. Want to cap the damage? Switch to Per Hole and everyone antes one bet into a pot the winners split.

Then the multipliers kick in. A winning birdie doubles the bet, an eagle triples it, an albatross is 4×. Either side can throw the hammer mid-hole to double it again: accept and play on, or fold and concede at the old price. The scorer handles the flips, the hammer and the math; the detail view shows every player’s net and every dollar, hole by hole, tagged 🐦 and 🔨 where the money moved.

Options

Stake & bet type

The base bet per hole. Per Opponent (the classic): each loser pays each winner. Per Hole: everyone antes one bet and the winners split the pot, so nobody loses more than one bet a hole before multipliers.

Team assignment

Manual: flip real coins and tap each player into Heads or Tails. Computer: one button and the app flips for you. Auto: the app flips itself every hole.

Score multiplier

On by default: birdie 2×, eagle 3×, albatross 4×, all adjustable. Count net birdies (default) or gross only. Only the winning side’s score counts.

Hammer

On by default. Double the bet mid-hole; the other side accepts or folds, and the sides take turns. Set a per-hole limit or leave it open. No hammer when it’s every player for themselves.

Score differential

Off by default. Multiplies the bet by the winning margin: a par beating a double bogey is 2×.

Outnumbered multiplier

Off (1×) by default. When the smaller side wins, the lone player beating three, multiply the bet. Made for odd-sized groups.

Every-player-for-themselves ties

When all the coins match and two tie for low: Tie (nobody pays, the default) or Low ties split (the tied players split the pot).

Handicap

100% by default, off the low handicap: the best player plays scratch and everyone else gets the difference.

FAQ

How many can play?+

Four to twelve. The more coins in the air, the stranger the teams get.

What if every coin lands the same way?+

It’s every player for themselves that hole: the low net collects from everyone else at the same bet. Two tied for low is a wash unless you set ties to split. No hammer on those holes; there are no sides to throw it at.

Can I get out of a bad hole?+

Not out of the flip: the coins are the coins. But when the other side hammers, you can fold: you concede the hole at the bet before that hammer instead of playing it doubled.

Can we set it once for the whole trip?+

Yes. Make it an every-round game and it runs each day with the same rules; every hole’s money flows into the trip settle-up.
